It's been suggested that we change the name of this diary from "Race Training" to "Fitness" diary. I'm not opposed; I don't think any of us here are training for anything at the moment. I initially kept the Race Training name because we did have a health and fitness diary from NJMom last year. So vote and let's see what suits us all best.

Fellow running MTs, I'm seriously meh about race training, but I'm not sure this is a bad thing. I'm maintaining, although haven't done a long run on Sundays in weeks, thanks to DH working every-single-friggin-day since his new job started (yes, he goes into work Saturdays and Sundays. When did we move back to the US and I didn't notice?!). I'm enjoying taking shorter runs of up to four or five miles, have kept my 2 mile runs at the sub-10 minute mark, but don't feel any sort of desire to sign up for anything. What's up with you guys?

Sorry for the tardiness, ladies. I am totally not focused on climbing new peaks of running excellence!

Running hero for the week: I picked up a copy of the Australian version of Runner's World late last week to find a race and get some motivation. They had a feature on Anna Bligh, the (relatively new) state premier for Queensland. She's the first woman state premier in Queensland's history and a Labor leader - both facts put her firmly in my good books, but she's also a runner. And how - Bligh, 47, is a mother to two sons, 20 and 14, has been an elected member of state parliament for 12 1/2 years and premier for about six months, and a veteran distance runner. Fellow running MTs, the woman has a half marathon PR of 2h06min, runs two half marathons a year, trains three or four days a week in the mornings, and wants to get a sub-two hour half marathon under her belt this year!

Sadly, the running feature's not online, but here are a few choice quotes:

There have been times when I haven't been disciplined or as regular in my exercise and when I let it drift I notice almost immediately how quickly my energy levels drop off and that makes it much harder for me to meet all my other responsibilities. For me, running energises me. You need pretty charged batteries to do this job.

...

I describe my running as 'Anna time'. I'm often thinking about the day ahead, everything from what I'm going to put in my son's lunchbox to what's coming up on the cabinet table and just getting a bit of order and focus for the day.

As you do, right? Ham sandwich, apple, drink, and, oh yes, the budget negotiations. ;-)

So, in case you (or one of your staffers) are lurking, Ms. Bligh: my hat's off to you and you're a real inspiration!

Ladies, my apologies. The week has gotten away from me, and I haven't been the most diligent! I definitely need to find a race to train for so I'll be more regular here.

Since it's Wednesday already by me and Tuesday by the majority of y'alls, it's a little bit silly to do a full-week diary. But since we're having such fun with resolutions and lists, I figured why not do a special Race Training edition, with promises (resolution!?) to do a full diary again next week.

So, ladies, three questions:

1.) what are you doing this week/what have you done so far?
2.) What are you most proud of from 2007?
3.) What are you planning to do in 2008?

Well, I don't know about you, ladies, but from here to the New Year, I'm all about maintaining reasonable standards of fitness and not letting the exercise routine get in the way of the rest of my life. And vice versa. But I'll tell you what: a summer Christmas is good for one thing - I can't hide the Christmas cookies and extra helpings underneath a bikini like I can a winter sweater!

Happy last week before Christmas!!
