What do we bring to a "brit" ceremony?
My husband and son are going to a "brit" on Sunday at the home of some good friends (I'm not going because I have to work, unfortunately). For those unfamiliar, it's a Jewish celebration of circumcision done on the 8th day of the baby's life. We are not Jewish and I don't know anything about the custom beyond that. My question is, are we supposed to bring a gift? We already gave the baby a gift when he was born (diapers in a cute bin, plus a bunch of baked goods). Should we give another gift, money, or should I bake something for the party? The last things I baked for them (cookies and home-made matza) they appreciated but couldn't share with friends because it wasn't kosher (blessed by a rabbi). This was right at the start of Passover. The family doesn't keep kosher but their friends and family do. Does food still need to be 100% kosher for passover or is that over now? Or is it something ongoing?
Sorry to sound so ignorant, I just am excited that my hubby gets to be a part of the celebration and I don't want to make a faux paus! We asked them what to bring and of course they said "nothing" but I don't know if they were just being polite. If you can help me figure this out I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
