What's up?

Since breastfeeding is a recurring theme here, I thought I would let you know of a website exclusively devoted to breast pumps.

A foodie mom wrote about feeding her picky-eating son in Open Salon. The anecdotes and pictures are adorable!

ABC News ran the best profile I have read of pioneer mommy blogger Heather Armstrong aka "Dooce." I didn't know this, but apparently she is in talks about making a Hollywood movie about her life. Based on this profile, it sounds like there would be a lot of fodder for it.

Also in ABC News: The Federal Trade Commission is considering regulating mommy blogs when it comes to product reviews. Any regulatory changes would affect mothers who are paid to review products and then do not disclose the conflict of interest. As a mom in this space, I am not concerned. I rarely review products, make it a point to review products I buy on my own and disclose any products that have been pitched to me by the company. I was paid for only one review, which I disclosed, and that was Van Jones's book, The Green Collar Economy -- and even then I put it in the diaries and not the front page. This is one area where having a journalism degree helps.

Just to show you these are lean times, California's first and oldest charter school, the San Carlos Charter Learning Center in San Carlos, California, is holding a 140-mile relay run from San Carlos to Sacramento on May 16 to raise "critically-needed funds," according to a press release by the school. "Our school’s funding crisis demonstrates the catastrophic lack of public education monies across California," the statement read. I wish them well. How is your child's school coping in this economy?

Due to the number of new commenters on the site -- thank you for "de-lurking" and welcome! -- I decided to join our sister sites Daily Kos and Street Prophets and put up a "Frequently Asked Questions" or "FAQ" in the tool bar. The purpose of the FAQ is to introduce us to the blogosphere and offer helpful tips to anyone wondering how they can join this community. If you have any suggestions or comments don't hesitate to drop them here or e-mail me at elisa at mothertalkers dot com. Thanks all!
