Weekly Parenting News Roundup
Cross-posted at Daily Kos.
Hello fellow moms, dads and caregivers!
I am back with your weekly parenting news update. Here are some topics we recently discussed here at MotherTalkers:
In case you missed it, our Erika is 15 weeks pregnant after 18 months of tests, drugs and a heartbreaking miscarriage. You can drop your congratulations in her open thread today. In related pregnancy news, we talked about the 5 things we wish we knew before having children.
We had a long discussion about this essay in Open Salon, in which a mother talked about the things her children find annoying about her. What are some of the things your children roll their eyes at you?
Our Rachel wrote about these children t-shirts with tasteless sayings like, "They Shake Me." What is the most tasteless saying you have seen written on a child's tee?
Mamapedia had an article by a mother whose son "came out of the closet" to her.
In healthcare news: Our Katy over at the Non-Toxic Kids blog wrote about an altercation her mother, who owns an independent pharmacy, had with protesters at a townhall meeting. Her mother made some interesting comments in the thread, which are worth a read. In other healthcare news: Ibuprofen was found to be the best pain relief for children with broken arms, according to a study conducted by the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Gloria wrote about mammograms and do-it-yourself breast exams.
Don't forget the "Cash for Clunkers" program ends on Monday. My dad just cashed in on a 1994 Hyundai Sonata -- it was a clunker alright -- for a new Hyundai Accent.
I am in New Hampshire visiting my parents. I have taken the kids to some fun spots in southern New Hampshire, including Canobie Lake Park -- an amusement and water park in Salem. We have gone to Don Ball Park in Derry, which has these huge play structures and neat contraptions to pour water over the kids. We have also gone to the SEE Science Center in Manchester. I hope you enjoy the reviews and pictures!
What else is in the news? What's up with you?
