In case you missed it, a federally appointed panel of doctors recommended that women not receive mammograms until they are 50, according to the Associated Press. Also, the government task force said that self breast checks were ineffective therefore women shouldn't be taught to do them. Ayayay -- what is an aware woman to do? Thank you, Tessa, for the tip!
As the Washington Post pointed out, finding suitable facilities that are not crammed church basements is a challenge for charter schools. The newspaper recently wrote an editorial urging the city to allow charters to take over buildings that used to be traditional public schools. It appears that in at least some cases, the city is doing just that.
Once again, Mamapedia had another helpful gifts thread. This one is for infants.
Daddy Dialectic's Jeremy Adam Smith alerted me to a cool website with helpful "sharing" tools. For example, there is CoAbode, a website that connects single mothers so they could share housing. Jeremy also wrote an article on the five benefits of living a car-free existence.
What else is in the news? What's up with you?
