Monday Open Thread
Good morning, fellow MTs. What’s going on in your world today?
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one to be horrified by the attacks in Mumbai, for many reasons. But out of the worst acts of depravity come acts of bravery. Sandra Samuel is the nanny to 2-year-old Moshe Holtzberg. Baby Moshe was tragically orphaned when his parents, Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg were killed in the attack on Chabad house in Mumbai. But Moshe is alive, and owes his life literally to Sandra, who found the baby with his injured parents, and then risked her own life to run through what seems to be a shower of bullets to get them both to safety. From CNN:
"First thing is that a baby is very important for me and this baby is something very precious to me and that's what made me just not think anything -- just pick up the baby and run," Samuel said.
"When I hear gunshot, it's not one or 20. It's like a hundred gunshots," she added. "Even I'm a mother of two children so I just pick up the baby and run. Does anyone think of dying at the moment when there's a small, precious baby?"
Sandra and Moshe are in Israel at the moment, while guardianship of young Moshe is being sorted out. What an amazing woman. I hope she’s reunited with her own children soon.
