I am filling in for Gloria today as she is on a business trip. She will be back next week.

Glad this story ended well: A three-year-old boy survived an 8-mile river ride on his toy truck after he wandered off his parents' campsite in Vancouver, British Columbia, according to Reuters. The parents and the boy had been unaware of the danger he was in, and yes, the boy made sure police did not forget to retrieve his toy when they found him.

Many thanks to Salon's Aaron Traister for writing about how he loves being married to his wife. Lately it seems like there has been a barrage of depressing articles about the sad state of marriage. (Think Sandra Tsing Loh's Atlantic Monthly piece and Caitlin Flanagan's cover story in Time.)

Salon Broadsheet ran a fascinating article about Norma McCorvey, the "Jane Roe" of Roe v. Wade fame. She was arrested at the Sonia Sotomayor hearing while participating in an anti-abortion protest.

In other dysfunctional family news: A Sarah Palin spokeswoman and daughter Bristol Palin's ex-boyfriend Levi Johnston exchanged barbs over the governor's resignation, according to the Washington Post Sleuth column. Johnston said she resigned to cash in on her fame. Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton pointed out that Johnston was peddling a book and movie and cooly replied, "It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills."

In case you are interested, DH will be on the Bill Maher Show this Friday at 10 p.m.. He will make an appearance with actor Jason Alexander and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer.
