Rants and raves on modern motherhood

Heartache Leave

After going through a bad break-up, wouldn't it be nice to call in to work and say, "I'm not coming into work today. I'm taking my heartache leave"...and actually GET PAID?

Well, employees at a Japanese marketing company can take time off after an upsetting break-up with a partner, with more "heartache leave" offered as they get older.

Hime & Company, of Tokyo, which also gives staff paid time off to go sales shopping, says heartache leave allows staff to cry themselves out and return refreshed. "Not everyone needs to take maternity leave but with heartbreak, everyone needs time off, " said Miki Hiradate, chief executive, whose company of six women markets cosmetics and other goods targeted at women.

So, if you work for this company and are 24 or younger, you can take one day off a year. If you're 25 to 29, two days off. Those older can take three days off.

"Women in their twenties can find their next love quickly, but it's tougher for women in their thirties, and their break-ups tend to be more serious," Ms Hiradate said.

So, I'm wondering...with all the Presidential candidates vying for your support, if you had an opportunity to ask for outlandish benefits such as these, what would you ask for?
