Fri May 09, 2008 at 02:07:20 PM PDT

According to Perez Hilton, Beyonce's clothing line, House of Dereon, is introducing a new kids line.

To celebrate the launch, B has come out with this ad featuring young girls dress like.....and looking like.

Work the lipstick and blush, babies!

Hmmm...thoughts?

my mother buys Lily all this stuff- Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, Baby Juicy. She gets em on clearance for next to nothing (Macy's addict) and she thinks they are soooooo cute. Sometimes they are, sometimes not. It's not like I'm putting lipstick on lily to go with the outfit.

Besides, Lily always "ruins" every outfit with a totally funky mismatched shoe choice, which ruins the "image" my mom pictured so it's fun to watch my mom's eye twitch. "You don't REALLY let Lily pick out her own shoes... " hells yes. Every day!

I file this under the Brats Dolls meh-ness. Do I like them? No. Are they a signal for the end of decency and childhood? Nah. It's not as if she's dressing in padded bras or thong diapers (ew, and heh). The hair on some of those girls is a little out there. Does anyone have kids who would put up with getting it styled that way?? :) And those hats would last 2 minutes before it was "NO momma, dolly hat"

to Carters, Osh-Kosh-By-Gosh and Garanimals?  Seriously...I don't want to go to a small child's wardrobe and find clothes hanging there that I'd borrow if they fit me.

I think my problem with them is that they aren't clothes that I would wear. My daughter could pretty much wear anything in my closet without looking that odd (the business suits might be a little funny). But I'm pretty boring, I suppose. Outfits like that in Perth wouldn't send a good message for adults either. But it's a different culture for sure!

What's with the high heels? Or possibly even spiked heels?

Yeah, that's healthy for a little girl to wear....

  • not surprised (0 / 0)

Beyonce seems like a nice person.  But I don't think she is the best-dressed star herself.  So I'm not surprised at this.

There are obviously huge problems with dressing little girls like this, huge.

But these outfits are also just ugly in my very humble opinion, but, hey, a fashionista, I am not.

Could there possibly be a market for this?  Are there truly parents out there who would see this ad and think, "that's just the look I want my 3 year old to achieve?"  Where can I get that lipstick in Elmo red?       And while we're at it, perhaps I should schedule my 23 month old for hair extensions or lip implants.

    that is all.

[Wow. I feel like I've slipped into Jezebel all of a sudden.]

I went to the Dereon website and actually, they're not that bad; the tops aren't belly tops, and while there's a lot of embroidery, it's not oversexualized IMHO. A bit silly, not what I find fashionable, but not bad. Unless the stuff Perez references is new and not yet on the website, what's there isn't that objectionable.

FWIW, would it be wrong of me to say that I wouldn't mind that blue jacket with the gold embroidery? I recognize that I love trashy denim (I'm from Jersey, folks).

Is that little girl wearing high heels???? I mean, seriously!

  • I admit it. (0 / 0)

I'm a fashion whore, always have been. However, it would be a cold day in hell before I ever bought any of this stuff for my little mama. I love baby gap and gap kids (but will only buy it on sale... most of the time) combined with Target for my kids... maybe now that Beyonce is married and possibly pregnant she will re-think this line of children's clothing.
