NKOTB Reunion?

Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 11:10:53 AM PDT

I thought it would be fun to post this picture. Enjoy! -Gloria

I considered posting something on this, but it would mean openly admitting to liking NKOTB. I was a part of the crowd that liked NKOTB songs, but was not obsessed over the guys. (Jordan Knight was so cute!) Thanks for confessing for me, J. -Elisa

Okay, I will openly admit it. When I was in my pre-teen and early teen years I was obsessed with NKOTB. While cleaning out my parents attic last summer I found boxes of stuff I had accumulated during that phase. Magazines, VHS tapes of TV performances, CD's, buttons, dolls, commic books, trading cards, and other useless merchandise. Crap, crap, and more crap. Parting with most of the stuff was easy, though I did contemplate how much it would fetch on Ebay. However, the 12 yo in me got a little giddy when I saw this article today on MSN today about my boy band's reunion.

The teaser info was fun to watch. Afterward, I emailed my high school buddies that were fellow blockheads. It could be interesting to see what these boys, now men, are up to and if the new material is any good. My expectations are low, but it will be interesting to follow and relive a little of my youth.

Joe!  So hot, so sweet, baby faced but far older and more exotic than myself.  I even related to Lisa on the episode of the Simpsons when she couldn't stop calling the Cory hot line.  But I destroyed all my memorabilia in late middle school or early high school.  What troubled me was, could I ever have really appreciated them musically?  Sure, they were HOT, but no two ways about it, the music was awful.  I still wonder about that.

I'm all about a reunion, though.

  • I did not like them (0 / 0)

but I grew up near Boston, and they were difficult to avoid.

  • wow, blockhead... (0 / 0)

I was a fan, but not quite an obsessive consumer-type fan... I would seriously think about going to see a reunion :) I guess I might be a bit of a blockhead after all.

    • same here (0 / 0)

liked them, knew the songs, didn't buy the crap. My friend was a straight-up groupie...stalked them outside their hotels, just for a chance to say hi! Parents would take their daughters to go do this! Crazy.

"Please Don't Go Girl" brings back fond memories of my 8th grade dances. :-) And I thought Jordan was the cutest.

I was a total fan when I was in 6-8 grade. Unbelievable. I kept cycling through all five in terms of crushes! The Right Stuff? Classic.

    • Donnie (0 / 0)

was my fav. I thought the others were cute, but I had a total crush on him.

I contemplated about posting this, but I figured that there is no way I could be the only one here on MTers that was a fan. But I too hid my fan status once I got into high school. It was totally uncool to still like them by that point.

    was more of my era.....

My kids were the ones who listened to New Kids On The Block.

Me too.  I remember taking my daughter and some of her friends to a concert here.  OMG!  I had such a headache from all the screaming. And driving to the concert, one of her friends hyperventilated, she was so excited.  Fortunately, the other 2 girls were much calmer.

      • My parents were Saints (0 / 0)

for sitting through the concerts that they too me and my friends too. And I thank them for it. (They did it for my brother too, but his obsession was Monster Trucks and NASCAR). My dad even went to a show. He and the other dad sitting next to us comiserated together. The 'rents kept saying it was a phase and I swore it wasn't. "I'll love them forever!!" 20 years later, I chuckle at how silly preteens can be.

        • What astonished me ..... (0 / 0)

... were some parents (at the NKOTB show) that were groupies (wannabes)!!!!  I have to say MOTHERS -- I saw no males acting this way -- in fact, very few male parents were there.  haha

Several times, I had to tell mothers in front of us to SIT DOWN because the shorter girls in our row couldn't see over them when they stood on their chairs to scream and try to get the band's attention.

          I was floored.

  • I think I'm going to go... (0 / 0)

I was a pretty huge fan.  Had a bunch of the crap, including a huge poster on my bedroom wall where I practiced kissing Jordan every night (tongue and all!).

If they come here, and I can find someone to go with me, I'm pretty sure I'll go.  I already asked my husband and he said there was no way he would go, but I guess I should have know that.  He's just jealous of Jordan.

Looking back, I see how boy bands are just so safe for 12-year-old girls (my age at the time).  We're into boys, but not quite ready to be into REAL boys, so we can drool over these famous musicians and "practice" those real life feelings.

Man they look good for pushy 40! ;)
