Don't You Just Love A Happy Ending?

I know I do!

This morning I received an email from Miles's Drama teacher.

Dear Mrs. [name redacted],

Thank you for your note and prompt attention to the matter of Miles’ drama assignment.

I did offer an alternate assignment using print ads for those who don’t watch tv.

I can see now that Miles did not respond to that offer because he does watch TV, he didn’t make the connection that it would have to have to be television with commercials.

I will simply not count the zero will I tally his grade.

Thanks,

Mrs. [Drama Teacher name redacted]

I wrote her a short and grateful response, reinforcing how much Miles enjoys Drama class.

I really want to thank you all for your help in this.  It's a small thing, one little homework assignment, but sometimes just a little matter like this can impact how a teacher views a student and his family.  I wanted to get it right, to continue Miles's warm relationship with his teachers and school.  You all helped me to accomplish that.

  • good for you. (0 / 0)

I read the other thread last night, but didn't have time to comment, and you had a ton of other great input....but I cheer this "small" victory of sorts because it is these little things that can make all the difference in a day/week/month....and you know what, those are the moments that make up our lives.

You did a great job advocating for Miles, but you also paved a smoother way for those coming alongside or behind you.  So important....

Plus you didn't make any have to feel like they had totally dropped the ball or been ridiculous.

I love the saying:  "Be the change you want to see in the world" which fits nicely here in your case.  Way to go!

and I am sure that the way you handled it, respectfully, may have made a difference in the response you got.

    I DO love happy endings!

Sounds like it was a bit of miscommunication, but you stayed calm & reasonable (I tend to be a bit of a "What???!!!" kind of person) so it ended with everyone happy. Good job!

Glad that got worked out so well.  :)

I didn't post on your original thread but did read it. I'm glad it all worked out - for you and for Miles.

  • What a nice response (0 / 0)

from the teacher!  Not only did she acknowledge your concern, but she also shows a specific understanding of Miles and how he thinks about things - something that will help her with him and with other kids.  Sometimes teachers assume the kids understand what the teacher means, but with some kids (who think more literally or more broadly, for example) that assumption can lead to misconception.

Glad everything worked out in the end - kudos to both you and the teacher for respectful communication!

she sounds like a great teacher. Well done, Hillary; glad to see that a well thought out, respectful letter netted a similar response.

  • Am I correct (0 / 0)

in my recollections of conversations  as to whether or not your son was in the right school for him?  Well, if there was any doubt, this should help to dispel it for the time being.  Believe me, when a teacher responds in a way that this teacher responded, it says  ALOT.
