The Democratic presidential debate in California will air on CNN tonight at 8 p.m. ET. With John Edwards out of the race, it will be only Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama. Super Tuesday is only days away so this forum should be insightful and interesting. Happy watching...

  Did you see last night's recap episode, with that bizarre commentary and plot summary that kept popping up in a crawl? I know they meant to explain the show to newcomers, but when I saw it in writing like that, it made me realize how ridiculous the plot really is.

to be a registered and politically active Democrat tonight. I am working for Obama, but will proudly vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination.

away at the possibilities that exist in this country now, represented right in front of us. So inspiring -- both candidates did well I thought. Can you imagine being Chelsea? what a thrill -the very real possibility of both her parents serving as president? She looked so proud of her Mom. I loved seeing her in the audience. I thought both candidates were very strong and articulate....and I liked the way that the debate was civil. I also like that they are both "admitting" that there is a TON of work to do and that it won't be easy. I hope our country can embrace not only change, but the willingness to embrace the work and cost of change.

  I was just thrilled by how civil the whole thing was, and delighted that Hillary started the whole thing off by making it clear that, while they are competing, the real enemies are republicans.

...that they kept showing all the celebrities in the audience, like it was the friggin Oscars or something.

I have a young cousin who is a die-hard Dem and made phone call after phone call trying to finagle tickets to be in the audience. Everywhere she turned, she was told it was "by invitation only."

I received an email from CNN asking if I needed a press pass...I didn't need to cover the debates but I shot back an email asking how regular folk could acquire tickets.

No one ever wrote me back.

    It's as if Hollywood is a foreign country, rather than part of America. "Movie stars" have as much right to participate in politics as any other American. They just have media attention. If they are for Democrats, all the better.
    
    The GOP has done a great job of convincing too many Americans of the opposite.
    
    (And I say good for them, that most good movie stars are Democrats. LOL)

      I agree that it's good that most movie stars are dems, but it's just wrong that the debates were by invitation only, and that the invitations went to movie stars. I guess I could see it if they sent out random invitations to active LA democrats, most of whom are not famous.

        if you are a big donor of time. unfortunately that recognition has to find it's way up to whoever has access to the candidate. the big fundraising folks get first shot and then comes the big money donors they snare.

      a good word choice. Maybe "allowed" would have been better. My point was not that actors should be denied the vote. Rather, it was that associating Dem candidates with Hollywood provides fresh fodder for hate radio hosts and unscrupulous fundamentalist preaches who associate Hollywood with loose morals and a host of other societal ills, and then tar the Dems with the same brush.

That location is HUGE. The number of recognizable movie stars? Not many. Oh yes, I heard them listed off. But even if 100 names were mentioned, there are MANY more seats.
