Nevada Caucus Open Thread

Sat Jan 19, 2008 at 08:55:16 AM PDT

UPDATE: Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in Nevada while Barack Obama won more delegates, according to the Nation. The race for the Democratic nomination continues...

On the Republican side, Mitt "Mittons" Romney easily won, although it appears he will lose in South Carolina to Mike Huckabee or John McCain.

Here is all you need to know about the Nevada caucuses, which are being held in January for the first time ever, giving Nevadans more input on the presidential race, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Both fields are wide open so should make for some interesting television.

The results will be in early, too: 1 p.m. for the Republicans and 2 p.m. for the Democrats.

The South Carolina Republican primary is also taking place today, although polls don't close until 7 p.m. EDT. Happy watching all!

of my guy Clark introducing Hillary yesterday in Elko, NV:

And they look chummy here too, no?

The weather in South Carolina might make their primary interesting.  Apparently snow and rain are in the forecast.

my hope, of course!  I think he'd be an awesome pick for VP.... so smart, so much foreign policy and military experience.  I have an unbelievable amount of respect for him.... I'm still an avid Clarkie, have been since the Draft Clark days.  I'm still active on the Clark Community Network, as is my mother.

I'm hoping as we get closer to the Ohio primary that he'll come here and stump for Hillary.  I got to meet him and hang out with him and his people for an afternoon 4 years ago during the Kerry campaign.  It's something I'll never forget!

        • I think he'd make a fine veep (0 / 0)

a fine SOS or a fine SOD. He's an intelligent, eloquent man with a distinguished military record. My hope is that we finally get some officials into the WH that know how to use the country's military might and also who knows how to take care of our men and women in the forces. I say this having had umpteen members in my family in the armed forces over the generations; whatever one's opinions on war and the military, the people who put their lives on the line in defense of their country deserve the right to know that their lives are valued during and after their service.

the more you convince me -- I like this ticket very much. I voted for Clark in NH in 2004 and I'd be very pleased to see him as the VEEP

  • McCain predicted to win SC (0 / 0)

Wow. Cozying up with the fundies in SC worked. I'm actually quite surprised; I was really thinking that the Fundie vote would come out big for Huckaboob. On the one hand I'm really glad that Huckaboob lost; on the other hand, I'm really worried because I think McCain presents the greatest threat to the Dems. Having said that, if Obama is the Dem's candidate, the whole younger/older dynamic is going to play like JFK/RMN in 1960.

OMG, is 2008 going to be an interesting, nailbiting year.
