I prefer Clinton, but this is the word on the street. Of course, Louisiana will go for Huckabee. If they could just vote for the Bible for president, they would.

I'll put the veeps in my predictions for fun.  In both cases I predict the establishment candidate with the support of the party machine wins, and chooses a warm, likable running mate who gets to do a lot of the actual talking.  

D:  Clinton/Obama  (Hardheaded experienced pragmatist balanced by inspirational idealist)
R:  McCain/Huckabee  (Hardheaded experienced pragmatist throws a bone to the religious right)

President:  Clinton, assuming the economy and/or war gets worse.  But this would be a nail biter, and if the Rs in office get their sh*t together we may be in trouble.

I've been scratching my head over who would be a good veep should Obama take it.  I don't see Hillary taking the job, and Edwards has BTDT - would he put in this much work for the #2 slot with a terminally ill wife?  Richardson is an obvious choice (inspirational idealist balanced by experienced foreign policy guy), but I can't imagine a minority/minority ticket just yet.

Sorry I'm such a pessimist.  I think if McCain gets the nom he would win.  I agree with Lisa in Austin that he holds onto that "maverick" thing somehow.  My DH who is a staunch independent (voted for Bush the first time then donated a bunch to Edwards and voted Kerry) likes McCain.  He knows so much more about politics than I do that it's hard for me to intelligently argue, but I just know in my heart that the maverick thing is crap.  He's not much better than any other repub to me.

I voted for Obama in our primary, but my prediction is:

McCain
Clinton by a hair.

Over at BooMan, he's got head to head polls of some of the projected winners.  For example let's look the numbers for Huckabee:
Edwards 48%-36%
Obama 52%-39%
Clinton 49%-43%.

Clinton numbers are interesting in that, as I keep telling people, there are an alarmingly large number of black people out there who'd, at this moment, would vote for Huckabee over Clinton.  

My SWAG (scientific wild ass guess):

Obama
McCain
Obama wins.

I pray that Obama picks a VP from a new well--Richardson was such a train wreck in his public appearances that I can't see him getting on the ticket.  Pick someone who isn't taking the job as a second choice!

Leave Dodd as Majority leader, and for the LOVE OF GOD, PELOSI HAS TO GO!!!!!!!!!  I am so bitterly, bitterly disappointed in her performance as Speaker.

NJ Mom, but I don't think Huckabee will win. I really think his brand of crazy is too extreme because it is genuine - Bush had a lot of very cynical people backing him in addition to the true believers. And the true believers alone aren't enough to carry an election.

I think McCain would give the best run to any Democrat, so if he's the nominee, he might stand a chance of winning.

Here's another thing to throw into the mix: what about Michael Bloomberg? He keeps hinting that he might run.

But so as not to seem cowardly I will make a prediction:

Dem: Clinton/Obama. OK, I hear those of you saying no because of the vision/charisma thing, but Hillary is smart. Remember, this is the woman that always took advantage of Bill Clinton's charismatic abilities.

Repub: Either Huckabee or McCain. VP? Who-the-frig-knows. Seriously, it's weird.

Outcome: Prez Clinton

Wildcard: As I said above, I think that if Huckabee gets the nod, Bloomberg will jump in on the premise that he could harvest moderate Repubs, Wall Street and independents. I think this means a Dem win, but we could actually see a scenario where the HoR decides.

Edwards/Huckabee/Edwards.

Seriously, I think Edwards and Huckabee are the most alike in many populist ways (anti corporation, pro environment, prolife AFTER gestation, anti-establishment)...it seems like they're kind of echoing many of each other's messages and pushing each other along.

Nah, I'm full of baloney because I have no idea, but someone had to say Edwards.

I still think any of our candidates can beat their candidates. Our turnout has been INCREDIBLE in all these primaries and caucuses.

and I'm having such a difficult time deciding between the candidates.  I keep wondering who is the most viable to win....the Democrats need to win.  I'm worried about Bloomberg getting in the race and it makes me nervous the very idea of Huckabee with the potential of winning --- I can't even imagine that, really.  

The ballot itself is historical.... amazing to look at it and realize what has occurred, reflected in the identities and genders of the candidates. A significant shift in our time.  It's heartening to witness it.
