I would prefer not to have the holiday at all.  This sounds super corny but I do feel like every day is Mother's Day around here.  My DS and DH treat me well, I am not taken for granted -- spoiled, actually.  Mother's Day feels sort of forced to me.  Coffee and papers in bed (same as every weekend) and I'm good to go.

Although really, I'm a little embarrassed after I clicked on the "Mother's Day For Peace" ad over there on the right and realized what Mother's Day was really about....

I DO get into Mother's Day, because it is nice to get the appreciation. While I guess am appreciated every day, it's not the same as people taking the time once a year to really express it. Last year I did request a gift, but mostly because frivolous expenditures are looked down upon in this house, so I decided to take advantage of the holiday and ask for one of those foot-spa things. But this year, and most years, all I ask for is that I don't have to entertain, and that I get some flowers (I'm in to flowers, I send them to my grandma and sent them to my mom every year for Mother's Day, too). So we are going out to brunch with DH's family. Just right! I love a good sunday brunch.

I would like my husband to install a couple of window boxes for flowers in the front of my house and I want a pedicure.  We are going to A Day Out With Thomas on Mother's Day itself.  So I know I'm getting a trainride with lot of excited toddlers including my own LOL.

with having a day in which we can all be together.  We're all going to visit my mother next weekend for Mother's Day, so for me, that is gift enough.  

Someone mentioned sitting on the porch and watching flowers be planted?  Sounds good to me.  I can no longer do my own gardening, so if they want to oblige this way, that's fine.  However, I've learned that where I live, its best to wait a couple of weeks past Mother's Day to put those plants out...but I'm patient...

My birthday, my anniversary and mother's day of course, are all in may. So I get a "May Day present" with little stuff on the specific days... so my may day present was a purse and wallet I wanted from Coach. SO ridiculous to want it... but I did!!!! At least I bought it at the outlet on sale. Oh, yeah, did I mention I picked it up for myself?

is to use my birthday present from DH - a gift certificate for an hour massage.  Unfortunately I'm not sure DD or I could handle being away from each other for that long.  The certificate expires in June though, so I should figure something out soon!

bike ride of the season.  It JUST got warm enough around here to start my on road training for my 50 mile ride July 14th... just 2 hours to myself...that's all I want!

Seriously, that's all I want, just to be by myself, working in the yard. Cut the grass, plant new flowers, power wash the moss off the bricks. It's an opportunity to think a lot of things through that I don't ordinarily get time to do with the kids around.

...miscarrying by Sunday.  (Turns out it was a blighted ovum.)  :-(

To say this sucks is the understatement of the year.  

DH asked me months ago what I wanted for Mother's Day. There is nothing I really need, but I mentioned that I'd like an iPod. He agreed with one caviout: he gets a new one and I get his old one. Ok, a sneaky way to get himself a sweet new gadet. But its only fair because for Christmas I bought him the really nice expensive digital camera that I REALLY wanted. So for Christmas I got his camera, and for Mother's Day, he gets my iPod. LOL!

That's right. Personalized golf balls.

I do NOT want to fight the crowds at some brunch.  DH makes me vanilla waffles with blueberry syrup almost every Sunday anyway, so I'm set.  But a massage certificate and/or a charm for one of my bracelets would be good as well.

I know this may sound bad, but I can't even look at the store flyers around this time of year.  Heart necklaces with "Mom" in the middle... blech.  

I hope something's in the works for me, because I haven't heard a peep.  I at least don't want to be cooking that day.  :-)

is my car to be cleaned out! Seriously, it's a disaster and needs a good vacuuming, dusting, and spraying with something. I told DH and he just laughed.

DH is on a business trip this Sunday - he's out of town from Thursday to Monday night. When I pointed out that he wouldn't be in town for Mother's Day, he looked panicked, and mumbled that we'd do something when he comes back. Yeah, right.

What I want? I want to be able to leave the house for about four hours and come back to find it cleaned from top to bottom. When I "take" time (and it's always me taking time, not me just going out...) to go for a weekend lunch with friends, or shop or even just get my hair cut, I always come back to find the house an utter disaster and nothing on the table to eat, precipitating me going into meal-cooking crisis mode. DH's excuse? He's not as good at multitasking as I am, and all he can do is focus on Jess. Grrrrr.

...is a night alone with DH! And thanks to my wonderful mom, I will get it. Mom and I are doing the Revlon Run/Walk for Women Saturday morning. In the evening, hubby and I will drop my daughter off at grandma's for the night, then go to dinner and a movie! In the morning we will go reunite with DD and take my mom to brunch somewhere.

I have only been apart from DD for two nights in her two years on this earth; so this is still quite new to her and there could be some drama (she is VERY attached to mommy and daddy). But we are near family now and we would like to take advantage of that, as well as give DD a chance to really get to know her grandparents and extended family.

Cross your fingers for me...

Please join the Woodfin Suites Hotel workers (many of them single moms), who were fired in a Living Wage dispute, for a progressive Mother’s Day action this Sunday. It will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m in front of the hotel at 5800 Shellmound Ave. Emeryville. We'll be emphatically calling on the Woodfin to "Do the Right Thing Now" for mothers and children adversely affected by their business practices. Me, my little girl, and my mom will be serving brunch, too, and children are welcome!

beautiful Mother's Day gift from my son already. He made it in pre-school: a painted, bejeweled pot that he's planted a pretty lobelia in, and a card with his handprint in pink on the front.

He obviously felt so good giving it to me, too. It was a very, very good gift. I'm beginning to really like Mother's Day!
