Welcome Elisandra Elexy!!!

Sat Apr 07, 2007 at 05:51:11 PM PDT

A few more details gleaned from a quick phone conversation with Markos:

Elisandra was born around 5 p.m., weighing just a hair under 9 pounds. She is 20.5 inches long, and tiny Elisa managed to squeeze her out without tearing or needing an episiotomy. I know she really wanted to avoid either of those scenarios, so I'm really happy for her.

During labor, the midwife kept commenting on what a large baby it was, which had Markos convinced another boy was in store. Babies always manage to surprise us, don't they??

This was a much quicker labor and delivery than Elisa's first--she was already 7 cm. dilated when she arrived at the hospital around 1 p.m.

Elisandra has dark, curly hair just like her mommy's-- lucky girl!!!

I'm at a family party, and managed to sneak away to convey this news from Elisa and Markos. I am beyond happy for my dear friends.

Having a great birth is such a wonderful experience...I know Elisa and Markos must be on Cloud Nine.  Can't wait to see pictures.

  • I remember (0 / 0)

being absolutely euphoric after giving birth - having a new life, being done with pregnancy, and, let's face it, having a newly deflated stomach! What a miracle.

Dark, curly hair - what a lucky girl. If she takes after her mommy in other ways, she'll be absolutely gorgeous!

  • HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NEWS!!! (0 / 0)

    Congrats to the whole family.

Hopefully she will never remember when a Republican was President!

Love the name - just beautiful!  Can't wait to see photos of Elesandra and her big brother.

Great news!  I can't wait for a picture!

  • Congrats to the family (0 / 0)

I knew she was going to have a girl.  I think Elisa is going to have a field day with her daughter.

    • And... (0 / 0)

She won't spend her days yelling the following phrases:

      "Get off of your brother."
      "GET OFF OF YOUR BROTHER."
"Let go of of his shirt."
"HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU NOT TO GRAB HIM BY THE NECK OF HIS SHIRT?"
      "Keep your hands to yourselves!"
      "GET OFF OF YOUR BROTHER!"

      sigh.... IlovemyboysIlovemyboysIlovemyboys....

      • I love my boys, (0 / 0)

but I certainly don't pretend to always understand them.  My 16 year old just sprayed silly string all over the kitchen.  Same boy child spent last weekend skateboarding down the driveway and under the garage door before it closed.

      • She won't have to what? (0 / 0)

What do you think I'm yelling at Ilia 90% of the day?
        "Ilia don't sit on Alton."
"Ilia, don't drag your brother on the floor." (This one is hard because he ususally laughing and her logic is, "He likes it.")
"Hey!  Don't poke your brother in the eye!"
"We do not fart on the baby."

On the other hand, I do have to tell him to stop hitting her on the head with the sippy cup.  I think he likes the sound it makes.  And his greatest joy is to pull her hair or just sit on her head.

        • Yeah, latest mantra to DD (0 / 0)

          "don't lick your brother"

Congrats to Elisa and family. Baby girls are wonderful (as our baby boys!).

          Happy Easter, happy baby.

          • The strange things we have to say (0 / 0)

At the park I overheard, "No, you cannot play soccer while holding the puppy."

And I uttered words to my then-3-year-old that I never thought I'd say: "No, honey, please don't do the dishes; I'll take care of them later."

      • Our morning (0 / 0)

That sounds strangely similar to what Will and I were shouting at Ari and Jude this morning, along with:

"STOP FIGHTING! LET GO OF HIS TOY! TAKE TURNS! YOU GOTTA SHARE! LEAVE HIM ALONE! GO IN THE OTHER ROOM!"

Of course, when they weren't pissing each other off royally, they were laughing like monkeys and jumping on beds. And I even caught them playing "night-night," where Ari put Jude to bed on his blow-up mattress and kissed his cheek. (He was so embarrassed that I caught him!)

Yeah--as long as Ari has buddies, I imagine Elisa will be doing plenty of hollering.

  • Much happiness to the whole family! (0 / 0)

Ari will be a great big brother--she's a lucky little girl.

  • Congratulations! (0 / 0)

Congratulations, Elisa, and best wishes to you and your whole family! Can't wait to see photos, but hope you're not even touching your computer for at least a few weeks.

    • Isn't that great! (0 / 0)

I had a 9lb1oz baby girl 16 years ago.  She stands just over 5'8 today and is one healthy beauty!

      Go Elisandra Elexy!

      • Big babies (0 / 0)

My second daughter was 9 pounds, 1 ounce. She was born the size of some 3-month-olds! I was the teeniest bit wistful not to have a tiny little baby (like my first one had been), but she became a sound sleeper much more quickly and we never had to worry about her gaining weight. She was and is a big, sturdy girl and a pure delight.

Congratulations Elisa and Markos and welcome beautiful baby Elisandra!

        • yes, i know the feeling (0 / 0)

my first born was 9lb 3oz and i am on the small side so had a heck of a time handling him when trying to nurse initially...plus he was just so darn big my dad wondered aloud if he already had a job lined up..lol.

he has grown into a beautiful healthy man; standing 6'3" and change...i often wonder how i birthed such big children who also grew up to tower over me.  so happy they are healthy and well.

i wonder if Elisa comes home today..

        • pretty big babe.. (0 / 0)

my dd was over 8 pounds and 21 inches.  i think all that prenatal vitamins and treating my body like a "temple" created her large status.  however, genes took over ultimately.  at 16 she is a petite 5'2".  i am 5'7" but so is her father :)
          • Hmm...guess I should have read your post (0 / 0)

before making mine below...my higher birthweight kids are taller than my lower birthweight kids.  Ofcourse, my husband and I are both on the taller side...I'm 5-7 or 5-8 while my husband is around 6-2.  My eight and half pound daughter is now 5-10.  Her sisters, twins, hover around the 5-3 area.  My 6lb 7 oz son is only about 5-7 at almost seventeen, while is 14 and 19 year old brothers (both born weighing around 8 lbs) are both over 6 ft.

      • My last baby was 8 lbs 13 oz. (0 / 0)

Another of my daughters was 8 lb 7 oz.  A couple of my sons both hovered around the 8 lb mark...just below it, in fact.  One son was only 6 lbs, 7 oz, and ofcourse, my twins were small at just 4lbs each.  What I have noticed in my children is that those who had lower birthwieghts are shorter than those with the higher birth weights.  Anyone else notice a connection?

  • What wonderful news! (0 / 0)

Congratulations to Elisa and Markos and of course to Ari as well.

      how is everyone doing?

      • Everyone's doing great (0 / 0)

We took Ari over and visited last night (the hospital is 2 blocks away) and they were in great spirits, feeling good. Ari was very pleased. He sat next to his Mami and held the baby. Said, "she's heavy." There are some very cute pix of Ari and his new sister.

Baby was beautiful, sleeping deeply, and nursing well. She's hungry, though, and wanting a little more satisfaction than the colostrum offers. She'll be happy when the milk comes in.

        • morning Amy (0 / 0)

well after debating with myself this morning, i got in my car and crashed the tunnel for a visit and first meeting with elisa and baby!  enough of this cyberstuff this easter morn.

you are right - elisandra is a beauty - and elisa looks fabulous and has amazingly bright energy.

i loved taking a quick peek and having a real introduction to both mom and baby.  very special for me who also has no family in this area.

my dd was born 16 years ago in the same hospital so it brought back memories too.  last night dd was flying home from maui having spent spring break with family friends so i was up a lot in the night thinking of elisa, her new baby, and my 16 yr old dd and all the years between her birth and now.

it goes fast - but boy is it filled with enormous layers of action and love.

hope you're having a good day!

  • belated congratulations! (0 / 0)

We were returning from the beach yesterday so in all the packing and driving I didn't check to discover that the beautiful Elisandra had arrived safely! Glad it all went well, and like the others, can't wait for the photos!

  • My goodness.... (0 / 0)

I'm gone for a few days and I miss EVERYTHING!!

    Congratulations Elisa and Markos!!

Elisa, I'm so glad your labor wasn't too difficult. Can't wait to see pictures!!

  • Very quickly... (0 / 0)

While Eli (pronounced Ellie) isn't in my arms nursing. Thank you all so much for your warm wishes! Karen M, it was so WONDERFUL to receive a visit from you. I can't believe you are a grandmother! You MUST share your anti-aging tips with us. :-) Also, thank you for the gifts, which were so much appreciated.

Erin: I just got your package yesterday. Thank you, Jeremy and Simone so much.

Amy, Will and Jude: We could not have had the "relaxing" labor and stay at the hospital if it weren't for you guys. Thank you.

    Erika: Thank you for posting.

My labor and delivery were short, and I have bounced back to the point that I went home today and am back to doing my normal chores. (I am bathing Ari right now. He wanted me instead of Papi who is now holding Eli. Thankfully, I have the energy for it!)

I am on cloud 9. I am amazed at how your love multiplies with each child. I can't stop looking at my beautiful baby girl -- and feel so ECSTATIC to have her. Pictures to be posted shortly...

Okay, Ari is calling for me. Poor guy needs my assurance that I am not running away with baby. Nah, he's happy to be a big brother and has been all smiles. Thank you all again!!

    • can't wait .. (0 / 0)

to see those pictures elisa!  congrats on getting home so quickly and bathing ari...OMG, you ARE a rock star!
    • I've been beaming all (0 / 0)

day at my good luck to argue myself into the car and go crash the tunnel to see you...i felt a bit intrusive but figured if there was a crowd, i could always just pass your room and not intrude....imagine my happiness at being able to peek into your room, meet YOU and YOUR NEW BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL...WHOA.  HAPPY EASTER EGG! :>)  She is soooo perfect...beautiful skin tone and so peaceful -- and you looked fantastic and had such energy and were so welcoming to me for bursting in on you!

Thank you for letting me visit for a bit.  Loved seeing you for the first time after this special spot in cyberspace.

All good, warm and loving wishes to you and your sweet family.  Have fun with your Mom tomorrow too!  I can totally understand why you are on top of the world.

    • So excited to see pictures (0 / 0)

I'm glad Ari has you home for reassurance.  I bet you feel so much better just not being pregnant anymore, too.  So glad you have such a beautiful new daughter.

    • amazing! (0 / 0)

I think I would be lying about, hoping someone would wait on me hand and foot! You ARE a rock star!

congrats again....and can't wait for the photos!

    • Wow. (0 / 0)

Man, you are amazing.  I don't blame you for ditching the hospital, after four days I was ready to grab my first baby and run out the door in the gown!

Glad to hear Ari is doing well and not surprised to hear you express the amazement of the widening heart.  Yes, the love just grows.  Enjoy your time together as a new foursome.

    • Wow! (0 / 0)

Amazing, Elisa!  I don't think I was doing chores the day after birthing my babies... but then again my labors were day long marathons.

I too left the hospital the day after birthing Madeline.  I was dying to get home to spend time with Grant.  :-)

  • Congratulations, Elisa and family (0 / 0)

    And welcome, Eli!

Glad to hear it went well, and that you are doing so well, and that Ari is in good spirts, also.

    An Easter baby, so sweet!
