The Elisa/Kos Baby Watch

Wed Mar 28, 2007 at 01:28:33 PM PDT

Well, kos says:

Still no baby. Getting darn close, however.

Hmm....what exactly does he mean by "darn close?"  I wonder if Elisa and he have a somewhat different perspective on what "darn close" means....

I really have nothing else to say...just saw kos's comment and thought that we all needed to continue the speculation on the impending arrival!!!

  • I dont think Elisa has anymore room (0 / 0)

    to expand...something's gotta give!

  • He is so funny! (0 / 0)

I swear, he is a spazz around births. He's cancelled appearances and hasn't travelled in a while -- doesn't plan to do any travel for at least the next few months. Every time I complain of a Braxton Hicks contraction or pain, he immediately pipes up, "do you think the baby is coming tonight?? Should we call the midwife?" I think I am going to wait until I am about to deliver to tell him I am in labor. LOL!

Those prelabor contractions are intense second time around though. I don't remember them hurting with Ari -- versus they feel like menstrual cramps now. I have a prenatal appointment tomorrow, so I'll be able to know better how "darn close" I really am. :-)

  • With some of my babies (0 / 0)

it was as if braxton-hicks contractions just morphed over into the real thing.  No particular starting time of labor....I jokingly say that I was in labor of a week with one of my sons.  With another two, I did this for about 2-3 days.  Even us very experienced moms can get pretty frustrated with this....with my son (5th baby) I remember crying hysterically on a Sunday night because I had been trying to have that baby all week long, and ofcourse, it felt as if NO ONE CARED!!  As soon as I had my cry, everything picked  up and he was born about 2 hours later, about 10 minutes after we got to the hospital.

Elisa, hope you're feeling well. I'm very curious to see who goes first! At my dr's appointment yesterday I was at 3 cm. I have been getting a round of contractions nearly every day, usually starting at around 4 pm, but then they fizzle out. While the contractions themselves are no big deal, it's nerve wracking to say the least wondering if they'll turn into the Real Thing.

  • mixed feelings (0 / 0)

On the one hand, I'd love to go, because this is driving me nuts.

On the other, my husband is still trying to finish a bunch of work, and life will be easier after the baby comes if he does.

Also, my problem is (at least right now) I want to labor during the day! At night I'm so exhausted...but in the morning not much going on in the contraction department.

Maybe if we make it through to the weekend I'll try taking a long walk on Sat. a.m. and see if that does anything.

  • Sigh. (0 / 0)

I still have some waiting to do. My midwife checked me today and she said I hadn't progressed much since last week. I am still 1 to 2 cm dilated and a little over 60 percent effaced.

But I have gained 45 pounds -- the same amount of weight I put on my entire pregnancy with Ari. Vey.

It looks like we'll be attending that baseball game this weekend after all...

    • Ah well... (0 / 0)

In the end, how far you are dilated and effaced means nothing except that once you're in true labor it's a little less work you need to do, right?

Take heart, I gained around 60 pounds with my pregnancies!  While Miles was nearly 11 pounds and I therefore really felt my body needed the extra weight, Eli was only 8.5 pounds so I had no excuse!

I don't know if I'd be going to a baseball game if I were you, but you know your body best!!

    • Date (0 / 0)

Elisa, when is your due date again?

Just as a side note, I went for a check with my second on a Friday (my due date), I was 0 cm dilated, 0% effaced.  OB starts talking all about ultrasounds for fluid levels, C sections, maybe a breech, tells me the baby is so high up she is in Connecticut, blah blah blah.

I went into labor 12 hours later and baby flew out 6 hours later.

I don't think those checks mean much either way!

I'm not sure I would be going to baseball game either, but as long as it's not too far away.....although that would be a good story to tell about going into labor at a baseball game  : )

      • April 8... (0 / 0)

well, it depends on who you believe. I never kept track of my period and I am irregular, so my midwife told me April 13. But the first ultrasound -- which was accurate with Ari -- said April 8. We'll see.

But your pregnancy with your second sounds A LOT like mine. I, too, am carrying very high and actually had a stress test done yesterday because I wasn't feeling the baby move that much. Everything is fine -- fluid levels, kick counts, etc.. But it really is a different pregnancy than with Ari.

I was reluctant to go to the baseball game -- go A's! -- but was assured by my hubby that the seats are very good and near a restroom (a MUST). Otherwise, no way would i go!

        • Move (0 / 0)

Yeah, you don't feel them move much at the end, especially when they are big babies, which I think you wrote Ari was.

I'm sure the u/s is right, if it was done early.

Glad to hear all is well from the stress test though!

          Hang in there!

        • bathroom (0 / 0)

Right, good thing there's a bathroom nearby, that way you'll have someplace private to give birth!

;-) just kidding, darling! Actually, I remember going to an Orioles game in my 9th month with Miles.  We had amazing seats 3 rows behind the dugout (he worked at one of the biggest law firms in DC, the ones who represented Clinton in the impeachment), but they were NOT close to the bathroom!

        • eeeh (0 / 0)

I say go. Of course, I worked until 48 hours before my due date (I was supposed to go on June 6; I worked until that Friday before, June 3), so I am a bit biased. I was enjoying being at work, had the energy for it and was actually peeved when Jess was a week overdue because I could've had an extra week of salary and an extra week of maternity leave!

      • Agreed. (0 / 0)

The day before I had my son, I had a check up and the doctor told me, "Well, he's not coming this week." I was like a fingertip dilated. So there.

  • My friend just had her baby! (0 / 0)

Wanted to share because I am so happy for her. It's her second-- she went to the doct and was 4 cm dilated! Had the baby eight hours later. She wasn't due for two weeks so it's a bit early but so was her first. Happy Day!
