Pregnant? Not pregnant? Does it matter?

Sun Dec 09, 2007 at 01:11:02 PM PDT

So I could be pregnant.  Or not.  I mean, I'm on the pill, but missed a few when I had stomach flu in nearly November.  I also took diflucan in November, which could interact with my pill, but could not.  And I was late by a few hours on my pills a couple days late in the month.  I don't have a period because I'm on Seasonale (which I love) but I'm spotting a little (which is something that's only happened when I was pregnant the first two times) and to tell you the truth...I'm ambivalent.

I could pee on a stick and clear the whole thing up, but it's $10 I don't really want to spend right now and I feel fine and to tell you the truth, I just don't want to know.  If I am, then DH and I don't want to have to deal with it during the holidays.  I take a vitamin and basically live like a pregnant lady anyway in terms of eating habits, etc and I'll see my OB for my regular annual in January anyway so I'll certainly know for sure at that point.  Am I being irresponsible?  We hadn't planned on a third and are pretty much at capacity right now, but we'd make it work if it happened.

But I feel really guilty about not wanting to know.

  • Back when I first (0 / 0)

had children, home pregnancy testing required being two weeks late with a period in order to produce a reliable result.  A decade before, doctors wanted women to have missed two periods before scheduling an appointment.

As long as you aren't on any medications that could be harmful to a developing fetus, I see no cause for knowing.  If pregnancies were so fragile, our planet would not be dealing with the population its not dealing with.

  • Seasonale (0 / 0)

Would the Seasonale be dangerous for a developing fetus?

    • Might be worth checking on this (0 / 0)

I think your feelings of ambivalence are perfectly normal, but Katherine has a good point.  It's probably worth checking to see about taking the pill while pregnant.

      Hang in there...

not until after 12 weeks or more.  Since I've always had brutal morning sickness for the last 4 weeks of the first 12, I'm assuming I'll know it by then.

You may not want to know, but we do!  Let us know when you find out.

Good luck whatever the outcome.  I know of at least two families where baby #3 was a big surprise and they all said that they had the most fun with that child, even after one of the moms admitted to crying when she realized she was pregnant.  So good luck!

My planned baby #3 will be here in less than a month.  I found this pregnancy the most annoying out of the bunch although I had no real health issues.  Maybe it's just me getting old but that's the way it's been for me.  By the way, ms was brutal with this baby and lasted a long time and it was not so bad with #1 and every thing about my pregnancy with #2 was a piece of cake.  The other thing about this pregnancy was it was very different from my first two in the symptoms I had like various food aversions, cravings, different aches and pains and other things.  This kid must already have ideas of its own.
