Health Myths Debunked

Thu Dec 27, 2007 at 12:29:28 PM PDT

Go ahead, read in dim light and only drink one glass of water a day. You'll be just fine, according to
this Newsweek article

.

One of my pet peeves is the "eight glasses of water per day" myth. I have a small bladder and if I drank eight glasses of water every day I'd never get off the toilet. I have never in my life drunk that much and everything appears to be working just fine.

There's no particular point to this diary, I just thought I'd share . . . isn't this more fun than thinking about how 500 elderly farmers in Iowa will decide the fate of our country next week?

for the link minnmom! i enjoyed reading the article. i'm like you, i could never drink eight glasses of water in a day and leave sight of a bathroom. i don't do it either. also i liked the one about reading in dim light. i'm sure i would have passed that one along to my kids without thinking about it.

So relieved about the 8 glasses thing, for the same reason!  I hate having to pee every 30 minutes.  It sucked during pregnancy, so why deal with it every day??

The Iowa farmers thing just depresses me.

  • Not that this will get legs (0 / 0)

with the "8 glasses a day" crowd. Another peeve of mine in regard to that is that caffeinated drinks "don't count" and that you have to drink a glass of water to counteract that. Bah!

And the "hair grows back thicker after you shave" myth has always bugged me, too. I'm sure you can ask a bald man whether that one works or not!

  • Drink to Thirst (0 / 0)

Ok, I admit that 8 glasses is a lot, but you'd have to agree that to your body, digesting a Coke is not the same as digesting a glass of water. Anytime your body has to filter out the bad stuff I just don't see how it's the same for your body as a glass of water.

I like the recommendation that you drink enough to satisfy your own thirst level. Certainly the less soda, coffee, alcoholic drinks the better, right?
