I've been commenting for a few weeks but I am just now getting around to introducing myself. I suppose you already know that I am Lisa and I am in Austin - the Live Music Capital of the World, but more importantly to me, a blue oasis in a red state. Here's the other low-down on me.

I am a 45-year-old SAHM of boy-girl twins, who will be 10 in December. In my former life, I practiced law for the state social services agency. I grew up in a conservative community and home, but found my true liberal self before I finished law school.

I love John Irving novels, the TV show Arrested Development, the beach, travel, candy corn, the Eagles [the singing group, not the football team], being with friends, Christmas music and dogs.

...a guilty pleasure of mine as well, though after a few handfuls, I'm usually on the verge of illness. It's much richer than people realize!
Welcome aboard, I love this place, and I love Austin as well. I have a beautiful Khazak quilt I bought at a great folk art shop there 9 years ago that hangs in my dining room and gives me great pleasure.

I am an over-50 SAHM of a seven year old son(adopted from China as a baby)and a true native Texan - my ancestors go back to land grant days. Now in North Carolina, I don't get to Texas much to visit, although all my Republican family is there(guess that answers THAT question!)
My memories of Austin are the 60's,early 70's(I was teargassed once in front of the Co-op, but there I go, getting nostalgic...)
I would love to hear about handling twins. I am not planning any, but just interested in the dynamics.

I am tempted to pick your brain about social services, since we are trying to shake them off, but that's probably a generally unpleasant can of worms, so...
