Trying to keep up with all these demands, material and otherwise, is enough to make anyone unhappy!
I could be wrong, but I feel like my parents didn't stress as much as my generation does. They just did their best, but I never got a sense of parental angst.
I also think the proliferation of "extreme jobs" could have something to do with unhappiness. It's hard to balance these jobs now, along with having a family.

But do our children notice our parental angst, or is it something parents have always tried to 'hide' from their kids. I know that I'm certainly not always as sure as I may seem to others. Perhaps our parents felt the same way?
I do know that financially, most your parents now have a more difficult time than my parents' generation, if only because housing now takes up a much larger part of anyones budget. We need our two 'middle class' incomes desperately to be able to live in a rather modest house not too far from work - this was not the case 20 or more years ago. This obviously does not help to ease the balancing act.

I don't know. I don't think my parents felt as much angst as parents of my generation.
They didn't have a lot of money by any stretch, and they both worked, but I do think the expectations of what parents were supposed to do and provide were a bit more in control back then.
Or maybe they just covered it up really well : )
