I never woke up at 3 am. with an undeniable craving for food I'd never wanted before, but in the first trimester, I craved gallons of tomato juice and - weirdly, canned tomatoes. I don't know how nobody noticed me being pregnant; I used to come to work and nibble my way through a small stack of cream crackers (despite the name, they're just plain water-and-flour crackers. Like the Carrs brand, if anyone knows them), and drink a can of ginger beer followed by a tomato juice chaser. Later in the day, I'd suck on crystallized ginger, because while I never vomited, my morning sickness nausea lasted until mid-afternoon.

I totally craved tomato juice. I'd grab my husband's V-8 can (he likes it too).
Also REALLY wanted fruit and dairy.
I didn't have morning sickness (don't get too jealous; I had nasty blood pressure problems later on in my pregnancy) but I did experience a strong aversion to meat during the first trimester. I remember walking into a Burger King on a road trip with my in-laws, thinking to myself "I can't handle this!" and running across the parking lot to a Taco Bell instead, where I got a bean and cheese burrito. Unfortunately, we were in the middle of the Arizona desert, where vegetarian options were far and few between...
The funny part is since giving birth, and it's been nearly two years now, the tomato juice and fruit cravings have by and large returned to normal levels, but I want fish almost all of the time. (Maybe my brain is trying to heal itself?)

It wasn't pleasant, but it was bearable and didn't really impact on my day-to-day living. I knew people who had it far worse than I did, so I just got on with it.
I also remember not being too crazy about red meat during the first trimester - too oily, too rich. Which is very rare for me. All my cravings have returned to normal; I hardly ever drink tomato juice anymore.
