My mum is the same.  She would be horrified if we got her an expensive gift.  She feels that she is a good mum with good kids, and she doesn't need a special day to prove it to anyone.  She would rather see us give of our time to help the greater good, or donate to those who need it most.  I too feel like the luckiest woman in the world.
