Although I cannot imagine that many kids in this house. I struggle with two. And I can't imagine being a kid in that house. It must be a strange existence. But what bothered me in that article wasn't the number of kids.
"The girls swapped jurisdictions, changing tires, working in the garages, mowing the grass," she said. "The boys got to cook supper from start to finish, clean the bathrooms," among other chores.
So...I can understand having "jurisdictions". It must take some organizing to keep that house running. But the girls have to do girls chores and the boys have to do boys chores. And if a girl hates cooking but would love to change tires, that's just too bad. Unless a TV show comes in and decides to "mix things up"?
Again...glad I didn't grow up in that house.

We have never had "girls work" or "boys work" in my house. Its all just work...and we don't assume that anyone should particularly enjoy doing any of it. I'm particularly sensitive to the idea that girls should somehow "enjoy" housework...my whole life I've always been very resentful of that notion. Its that kind of thinking that gets most of it dumped on women....I think there are men who pretend to believe that to ease their guilt. But....I digress.
I will say it again...I'm still hung up on their clothing. Yes, I understand simplicity and modesty, but I find their lack of ability to express any individuality very creepy.

my DH speculates what those kids will be like when (if?) they leave home for the first time.

The oldest boy has to be about twenty now, right? Is he still at home?
