Christmas Open Thread

Merry Christmas morning!

How did Santa treat you? We opened gifts last night during Noche Buena. DH bought me really cute, comfy PJs from Pajamagram. Later he told me he was tired of seeing me in the same ratty old PJs. Alrighty, then! He’s right though. I tend to wear pajamas until they fall apart. This is something I never would have thought to buy for myself, and I really like them. I also got an iPad mini! Already loving it.

This morning Santa will visit the kids. DD left a letter for him, along with sugar cookies and egg nog. (“Maybe he’ll be tired of drinking milk,” she said.) Here’s what she wrote:

Dear Santa,

My baby brother Alex wants a new bike and a toy train and I want the American Girl doll Caroline and a Bitty Baby. We hope that we are both on the nice list. I believe that you’re real. What is it like to be an elf. I wish I could fly on Rudolph and on your sleigh. How do your elfs build the toys. I hope you like trying egg nog. and cookies.

Love,

Maya

Can’t wait to see the look on their faces when they come downstairs!

Chat away!

  1. We had a wonderful morning. The kids were excited about their gifts, though it’s always funny what inspires more excitement. Clara loved the $11 ball ramp but is scared of her big gift of a rocking horse that whinnies and Lucy was over the moon about the Easy Bake Oven and meh about her little video camera. Totally misjudged DH and his gift-giving. I only saw one present under the tree and was bummed about it. Turns out I got 2, and they were good ones–a beautiful anniversary ring with a row of tiny diamonds that I can wear next to my wedding band and a new iPod.

    Merry Christmas!

  2. Merry Christmas! We’ve had a nice day. I think everyone is happy with what Santa, though the girls do have 3 things that need to be exchanged because of sizing issues.

We’re just waiting for the roast to come out of the oven, and then dinner. Tomorrow we head off to the inlaws and another round of celebrating.

  3. We got to stay in bed until 7:30… not bad. Everyone seems pleased with their presents. Overall a success. Next up is figuring out how to crack and clean the crabs I bought. I wouldn’t mind if the rain stopped…

  4. Not “Christmas” per se, but we had a very nice weekend. Even though we don’t celebrate Christmas, it still felt like an odd weekend to my mom, and she didn’t want to be alone, so DH, DS and I went to her for the weekend. DD is close by and stayed with us, too. We had four nice lazy days, which we all needed. Both kids and I were fighting colds all weekend, so lazy days were nice. We saw a movie (The Guilt Trip), went to a Farmer’s Market, mom and I saw a play, we ate out a a very “hipster” restaurant, and spent a lot time in pajamas playing Bananagrams! Last night we went to my Sister-in-law’s family Christmas Eve. A big extended family and a few close friends.

Back home tonight, because I have work tomorrow. Since I have given notice at work, I can’t take any days off (other than the holiday). My supervisor said I could take Monday and then squeeze my hours into W-F. DH and DS will be home for the rest of the week.

  5. My thoughts are with all of you today. I am feeling very grateful for each of you today. And, I know I’m not alone in saying that I’m so happy for Music Teacher that her DH is feeling better!
We’ve had a terrific few days. It is a special kind of peace to have my children all together, in one place. Last night we ordered Chinese and watched A Christmas Story by a roaring fire. Today we opened gifts, ate a delicious meal and had a million great conversations. We expect grandparents and cousins for NYE. Prior to that, we’re moving our oldest into an apartment and spending 3-4 days in tournament w/the girls.
I’m so delighted to have my children near. They have grown to be interesting, generous and good-hearted. My heart is full of happy tonight.
